According to the victims’ family members,it all started when their friend,Farookh, called them around 7 pm on Friday and asked them to come out with him. They were unaware of where Farookh had taken them.

Around 10 pm,Kumar’s father Ramakant received a call from Farookh. “Sounding panicky,Farookh said he needed an ambulance immediately. He seemed to be in a hurry and kept the phone down immediately,” Ramakant said.

When the families of the victims reached at the spot, they did not find Farookh. Instead, they came across a grotesque scene of Manoj ,Sunny,Kumar and Sanjeev lying dead. Rohit and Sagar, still alive, were rushed to the hospital.

Though Sagar (25) died later at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital,Rohit was discharged after first aid.

A pall of gloom had descended over Y-Block in Mangolpuri, where neighbours had gathered at the houses of the deceased to express their condolences.

Thirty-year-old Sanjeev Kumar, who ran a business of his own,had returned home at 3 pm on Friday. “My son received a call around 7.30 in the evening. After that,he told me he was going to the market nearby and that he would return in 10 minutes,” said his mother,Indravati.

The other houses in this street had similar stories to relate. According to Sunny’s father,Surender, who lives across the road,Farookh had called his son too. “They were friends. Farookh lives next to Sanjeev’s house. They had all grown up together.”

“We are reviewing the case under Section 174 of the CrPc. We are waiting for the post-mortem report,” Singh said.
