Four persons died and 24 others were injured after a canter truck collided with another truck on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Greater Noida Monday.
Police said the canter was ferrying a Meerut-based band party, which was returning after a performance in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur. The accident took place around 2.30 am.
The deceased, Arjun (38), Sompal (50), Raju (35), and Rohit (40), were from Meerut.
“The deceased and injured persons worked for Sharma Band Party. They were returning to Faridabad via the EPE after a programme in Hapur. There were 30 people in the Eicher truck (a mini truck). Around 2.30 am on Monday, it hit another truck, which was parked on the expressway, from behind. The accident took place because the canter’s tyre burst,” said a Greater Noida police officer.
“The bodies have been sent for postmortem. The injured persons have been admitted to a private hospital for treatment,” added the officer.
Police are looking for the truck driver, who left his vehicle parked on the road and is on the run. No case has been registered in the matter yet, added police.
