With the arrest of three alleged robbers the Delhi police claimed to have solved four cases of car jacking and robbery reported in Southwest Delhi. Police said the accused, identified as Rahul, Anil and Rahul, used to pose as police personnel and flag down cars. Once the car stopped, they would rob the drivers and flee with their vehicle. “They used to wear police uniform because car drivers stop easily the moment they see men in police uniform. They also told police that they undressed the victims so that the victims could not report the incident immediately,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said. During questioning the gang told police that they were planning a big robbery near Piragarhi Chowk for which they needed vehicles. So, the accused told police, they resorted to stealing cars. Police said one such case was reported on May 19, when one person was robbed by the gang. “The victim was driving down from Gurgaon in his Alto 800. When he reached Pandwala Mor Jhatikra Road, two persons in police uniform signalled him to stop. As soon as he stopped, another man joined the two and the three dragged him down, beat him brutally, undressed him and dumped him in a nearby field. Then they fled in his car,” a police officer said. In another case, reported on May 17, a person driving from Gurgaon in his WagonR was robbed around 1 am. When he reached near Mahipalpur Chowk, three persons — of which two were in police uniform — stopped him. All three then got in his car and directed him to drop them at Rajokri. They dragged him to the rear seat and beat him up. One of them then moved to the driver’s seat, undressed the victim and threw him near a drain. Police said two other cases were reported, one on May 22 and another in February. “We have worked out four such cases and have established the involvement of the same gang in all of them. Two of them — Rahul and Anil — wanted to earn quick money to impress women. The other one, Rahul, was pursuing a diploma in civil engineering from Polytechnic Institute in Jhajjar. He wanted to earn quick money which is why he joined hands with the other two. We are trying to apprehend the remaining members of the gang,” Gupta said.
