Three people were killed and several others were injured in a fire at a residential building in East Delhi's Krishna Nagar in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, said fire officials. One of the deceased, Parmila Shad, 66, was found dead on the first floor. The other two - Keshav Sharma, 18, and Anju Sharma, 34 - were rescued but later declared dead at GTB Hospital. The Delhi Fire Brigade said it received an emergency call around 2.35 am, reporting a blaze at Gali No. 1. According to the officials, the fire originated in the building's stilt parking area where 11 two-wheelers were engulfed in flames. The fire quickly spread to the first floor and generated intense heat and smoke that affected the building's second, third, and fourth floors. The structure comprises a ground (stilt) floor and four upper floors, covering an area of 100 square yards. Twelve residents were rescued from the upper floors and transported to various hospitals for treatment. One seriously injured person was transferred to Max Hospital for advanced care, according to officials. Incidentally, this was one of the two fire incidents reported in East Delhi within a matter of hours. At least seven newborns were killed after a massive fire broke out at a children’s hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar just before midnight.
