Three police personnel posted with the operations unit of Central district have been suspended after Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora received a video, along with a complaint from the Arunachal Pradesh police, alleging that they took Rs 12 lakh from the relative of a minister in the northeastern state. The Vigilance department has initiated an enquiry into the matter and is going to question the three personnel to record their statements.

Initially, an internal enquiry was initiated and two of them were transferred to the Third Battalion of Delhi Armed Police. They have been suspended now.

Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Northern Zone, Dependra Pathak, said, “We received a complaint from the Arunachal Pradesh police and suspended three police personnel. The vigilance branch will conduct further enquiry and appropriate action will be taken.”

DCP (Central) Sanjay Kumar Sain, in an order issued on July 21, said, “Inspector Girish Jain, sub-inspector Akhil Kumar and assistant sub-inspector Rakesh Kumar are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect.”

On July 19, the Central district claimed to have busted an interstate auto-lifting gang after arresting three men, including a 29-year-old, from Arunachal Pradesh. “After lifting SUVs from Delhi, they would sell them in Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur. These vehicles were sent to the three states by road. After tampering with the engine and chassis number, these vehicles were registered at RTOs,” Sain had said.

On July 17, Arora received an official letter from the Arunachal police in which he was informed that a team of Central district police came in connection with the probe into the auto-lifting case and they took money from one of the local residents, who is a relative of a minister, after threatening to implicate him in their case.

“In their complaint, the AP police also shared details of their enquiry, conducted by one of their senior officials, and also informed that they have suspended their two police personnel. They also mentioned two footages, showing the complainant’s aide going to deliver Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh to the team from the Central district,” an official said.

“Three policemen will deposit their kits in the clothing store and I-cards in the general branch. During their suspension period, their headquarters will be District Lines of the Central district and they will not leave the headquarters without the prior permission of the competent authority,” Sain said in his order.

“We are probing the role of a senior officer also since the two personnel went to AP on a flight and were in touch with their seniors,” the official said.
