26-year-old inmate found dead in Tihar jail, judicial inquiry on

A 26-year-old inmate of Delhi’s Tihar jail allegedly died by suicide inside the prison complex on Monday evening, jail officers said, adding that an inquiry by a judicial magistrate is underway into the matter.

A Tihar prison official said that on Monday an inmate, identified as Javed, was found dead inside the jail. He had been convicted by a court in a robbery and dacoity case in Malviya Nagar and was lodged in Jail No. 8 after his arrest.

“He died by suicide in the common toilet area of the enclosure for inmates (first-time offenders), at around 5 pm,” said an official.

Notorious gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, who was brutally stabbed to death by fellow inmates, was also lodged in the same jail.
