Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that his fast against inflated power bills, which entered the 10th day, would continue unabated. Meanwhile,Delhi Police prevented AAP activists from marching to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshits house on Tuesday. AAP representatives had planned to deliver around eight lakh letters from people who had decided to stop paying electricity bills in protest,to Dikshit.
A statement from the AAP on Monday said the government was insensitive to the needs of the people. The attitude of the government was evident when the CM refused to accept protest letters written by eight lakh aam aadmis of Delhi, against inflated power and water bills. The activists who went to deliver these letters were stopped midway by the Delhi Police, the statement read.
According to the AAP,272 activists representing 272 municipal wards in Delhi were to deliver the letters to Dikshit at her resident, but they were stopped by Delhi Police at Bhairon Marg. The activists were peacefully proceeding towards Sheila Dikshits residence in autorickshaws, but were not allowed to move beyond Bhairon Marg. After talks with the authorities,Delhi Police agreed to ferry all the AAP members on 4 buses provided by police. However, police dropped us at the Indraprastha Metro station instead, AAP said in a statement.
In Sundar Nagri, where Kejriwal started his fast,AAP maintained that his health parameters were within normal ranges. Despite extreme weakness,Arvind Kejriwals health parameters are in normal range. His blood pressure is 109/74,pulse is 76,sugar is 128 and ketones are between 2+ and 3+, an AAP office bearer said.
When supporters asked Kejriwal to break his fast, the activist-turned politician said his fast against the power nexus will continue. This opportunity to fight against the corrupt has come after many decades and we may not get another one in many years to come, Kejriwal said.
Police said the protesters were stopped at Bhairon Marg and not allowed to proceed towards the CMs residence,as more than 250 persons wanted to enter her house. A group of protesters who tried to break the barricade were detained and released by police in the evening.
We spoke to the protesters and told them that we would allow only six to seven representatives to visit the CMs residence and submit their memorandum. There were around 250 persons at the spot. They could not be allowed to proceed, keeping the law and order situation in mind. Some 34 persons in two groups tried to sneak into Janpath. They were detained and released later. No case has been registered, SBS Tyagi,Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi),said.
