A 23-year-old man was allegedly taken hostage before being beaten to death by the family of a girl he was friends with, in Ghaziabad Thursday, police said.
Following a complaint by the victim’s brother, police have arrested three persons, including the father of the minor girl.
The deceased has been identified as Parvez, an electrician who lived in East Mustafabad of Loni Police station area.
DCP (Trans Hindon) Vivek Chandra Yadav said the girl, a class X student, and Parvez, who belonged to different faiths, had known each other for the last one year. “Parvez had come to meet the girl when her father was not home and her younger brother was flying kites somewhere in the area. Around 5 pm, her father came back from work and saw the girl with Parvez. He took Parvez hostage and called his relatives. Together, they beat him mercilessly after which he died,” said Yadav.
He said the accused had initially informed police that the man came to steal something from their home. “He was immediately taken to the hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Three persons have been arrested based on a complaint by a family member of the man,” said the DCP.
Parvez’s brother, Md Asif, alleged, “He had left home around 11 am on Thursday. Between 5 pm and 5.30 pm, he called our younger brother Samir and informed him that he had gone to meet his friend… where the accused had taken him hostage and were beating him inside a room. We immediately reached (the spot) where we were told that Parvez had been taken to a government hospital. He died because of the lynching.”
Police said two teams were constituted to arrest the three accused – aged 40, 26 and 23 respectively – who belonged to Bulandshahr but were living in Ghaziabad.
Officers said while the oldest among them, the girl’s father, was arrested from a hospital, the other two were arrested from his house when they were packing their bags to run away.
Police have also recovered an iron pipe, which was allegedly used in the incident. A case under IPC sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting) and 342 (wrongful confinement) has been registered in Ghaziabad.
