The Special Cell of the Delhi Police, along with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) teams of Tauru and Nuh, Haryana Police, apprehended a man after a brief shootout in Nuh's Tauru district. The accused — identified as Shakir — was wanted for the murder of a Delhi Police head constable in 2012, and had been absconding since then. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of Shakir in Tauru on Monday, the Special Cell team along with the local police, laid a trap to apprehend him. Upon being signaled to surrender, Shakir opened fire at the team of officers, prompting them to retaliate. During the exchange, Shakir suffered gunshot injuries in both legs, and was subsequently taken into custody. Police have seized a .32 bore pistol with four live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle from possession of Shakir, said officers, adding that an FIR has been registered under him under Indian Penal Code Section 302 (punishment for murder) at the Tauru police station. In 2012, Shakir shot at and killed the then head constable, Yashpal, who had "challenged" the former and his associates during a robbery in Baba Haridass Nagar. Police have issued a non-bailable warrant against Shakir and the process of declaring him a "proclaimed offender" is underway, said officers. Shakir, who was dabbled in crime ahead of the 2012 murder, had been charged against eight cases in Haryana and four in Delhi, involving murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, Arms Act violations, and NDPS Act. He was also involved in an exchange of fire with police in 2013, when they attempted to apprehend him as well as in a case of indiscriminate firing and attack on the house of former Tauru MLA Shahida Khan. Shakir was carrying a bounty of Rs 50,000 in the 2013 case, where he exchanged fire with police.
