On Sunday, Sandeep and Arif were sitting in a park in West Delhi’s Khyala. The two were good friends, and they had known each other for years, said police. Suddenly, an argument broke out between them and it escalated into a scuffle. The two allegedly stabbed each other with sharp weapons — and died of injuries at a hospital. Police said the two men were residents of B Block in Khyala. Sandeep’s brother alleged the argument was over a loan of Rs 5 lakh. According to police, a call was received from Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital at the Khayala police station about two men being admitted with stab injuries between 10 pm and 11 pm. They succumbed to injuries in the early hours of Monday. “As per the information available so far, the two friends, who have known each other for years, were sitting in the park. An argument broke out, and it escalated into a scuffle. During the brawl, both of them stabbed each other with sharp-edged weapons,” said Vichitra Veer, DCP, West. According to a police officer, neighbours found the men lying injured in the park and rushed them to the hospital. Police said CCTV footage of the incident showed a man in a white vest running with a knife in his hand while arguing with another man in a red T-shirt. Sandeep worked as a property dealer and was previously a gym trainer, said the police, adding that both men were married and had children. The park where the two were found is under the jurisdiction of the Tilak Nagar police station. Teams from both Khyala and Tilak Nagar stations are now investigating the matter. Police are questioning family members of the deceased and neighbours to ascertain the cause of the conflict between the two. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events. The bodies have been preserved for post-mortem examination at DDU Hospital. Sandeep’s brother, Kuldeep Yadav, who was at the hospital, alleged that Arif owed Sandeep money and was not returning the amount. “They had known each other for the last 10 years. Sandeep worked as a property dealer and had given Rs 5 lakh for Arif’s bail when he was arrested by the police about a year ago. He also made an advance payment on Arif’s behalf for a flat he was interested in,” Kuldeep alleged. He alleged that Arif was not returning the amount, despite Sandeep saying that their mother was paralysed and he needed the money.
