A 19-year-old wanted for the kidnapping of a Noida-based businessman was arrested by South Delhi police on Friday. The Inspector General of Meerut had declared a reward of Rs 15,000 on the youth. Businessman Kapil Gupta was kidnapped on September 24 and released after a ransom of Rs five crore was reportedly paid to the abductors. It was during investigation that we ascertained the involvement of the Monu Gujjar gang in this case. Based on a tip off,we arrested the youth,a member of this gang,from Chirag Dilli, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chayya Sharma. Police had information that the youth would be in the area near Bhagat Singh College around 4 pm,following which he was apprehended. Police later learnt that he is a cousin of Monu Gujjar. The youth lived with his maternal uncle and helped him in his property dealing business. Monu used to visit his office with his associates quite frequently. Monu had been arrested earlier several times by the UP police. In September this year,police said,Monu came to his office with his associates asking him to arrange a rented house as they planned to kidnap a businessman. Accordingly,he took a house on rent in Alpha Sector,Greater Noida where Monu and his associates kept Kapil Gupta hostage and released him after taking the ransom. Delhi Police have informed their Noida counterparts about the arrest.
