Z-Plus security cover for CM son-in-law,Z for bahu

The Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB) dera chief Gurinder Singh has also been categorized under Z-Plus security cover. Another prominent person former director general of police PS Gill would now get Z-category cover.

With Majithia and Gurinder Singh,there are now six people in the state who would get Z-Plus security cover. The other four include the chief minister,deputy chief minister,Governor Shiv Raj Patil and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Also,with inclusion Harsimrat and Gill,there are now 16 persons enjoying the Z category security cover.

Sources said that the security cover for the four VVIPs was enhanced after a recent meeting attended by the intelligence bureau and security wing officials. The security was enhanced based on intelligence inputs regarding the threat,which they now face.

Those under the Z-Plus security cover get a pilot vehicle,besides a couple of escort vehicles while those under the Z-category get a pilot and an escort vehicle. In both the categories,those protected get guards at their residence apart from special police officers.

A commando battalion with nearly 600 personnel are on duty providing security cover to the chief minister and his immediate family. The battalion has a pool of 80 vehicles,including six bullet-proof Monteros.

The Punjab Police is presently guarding 2,527 dignitaries – including 870 civilians,537 police officers and 376 judicial officers – in the state and have deployed 8,700 personnel to provide them with security cover.
