Youth sentenced in NDPS case

A local court on Monday sentenced Himachal Pradesh resident Som Prakash to two-and-a-half years in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances case.

CHANDIGARH: A local court on Monday sentenced Himachal Pradesh resident Som Prakash to two-and-a-half years in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case. The court of District and Sessions Judge Shalini S Nagpal also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Prakash.

The defence counsel had sought bail for Prakash,but the court denied it under Section 32(a) of the NDPS Act. The court had convicted Prakash on Friday.

Prakash was caught by a police party on March 4,2008 from ISBT-17. The police team led by Sub-Inspector Ram Rattan stopped him as he was carrying a blue-coloured bag which the police suspected to be containing stolen items.
