Justifying the “clean chit” given to Sector 3 SHO Shri Prakash for his gross negligence in the accident,Deputy Inspector General of Police Alok Kumar on Tuesday said “he is our officer and we are the best judge of what action should be taken against him”.

He added,“SHO’s only mistake was that he should have informed if he was busy at that time. He also raised his voice at the spot when he reached as the passers-by had gathered. They were obstructing the SHO’s course of action. Thus,he also had to raise his voice.”

Asked why he reduced the indictment to a mere censure notice, the DIG said,“Punishing the SHO is up to the police department. I have taken whatever action was necessary. SSP Kampani had given his report and he suggested what he felt was right according to his findings. I have taken a decision what I thought was right.”

Surprisingly, the DIG said that it was not the responsibility of the PCR to take a person to the hospital. “It is the responsibility of the health department to take a person to a nearby hospital. We have also mooted a proposal to the administration to introduce a fleet of ambulances corresponding to the number of PCR vans in the city,” he said.
