Viral infections on the rise in the city

While the recent rains have brought a nip in the air,it has also led to a rise in the viral infection.

While the recent rains have brought a nip in the air,it has also led to a rise in the viral infection. The unexpected rains have people falling ill to viral fever even as doctors say that the number is likely to increase with the dip in temperature.

Running nose, cough and throat and respiratory infection are the common diseases that may add up to viral fever if not treated immediately. Mild fever, headache and body ache are the major symptoms indicating onset of viral fever. Doctors say that currently they have about 10 cases of viral coming in General Hospital and around 20 cases that come in have severe cold and cough.

“The weather is very unpredictable currently. With significant drop in temperature, running nose and cough have become very common. Patients are advised to not treat even mild fever lightly as viral infection is on the rise,” said Dr V K Bansal, civil surgeon,General Hospital,Sector 6. Doctors also advice to stay away from those already suffering from cold so as to avoid getting infected. Patients have also been advised to cover their nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing to prevent spread of infection.

Doctors say that diet too plays a very vital role in this season as people should lay emphasis on taking fresh fruits and lot of fluids like fresh juice. Medicos feel that this fall in temperature would prove helpful as well in curtailing breeding of mosquitoes which in turn would control dengue cases. “Rise in temperature would kill mosquitoes which is a good sign for this season also leads to dengue. Meanwhile, home made food is the best in rainy season and fluid intake should also be increased,” said Bansal. The township has fared quite well regarding dengue cases this year with only three confirmed cases reported till now compared to last year’s 12.
