Vegetables prices rise due to delayed monsoon

Owing to delayed monsoons and less supply this year,the prices of all the seasonal vegetables and most common fruits has increased by 10 to 15 per cent this week.

Owing to delayed monsoons and less supply this year,the prices of all the seasonal vegetables and most common fruits has increased by 10 to 15 per cent this week. The markets in the tricity have seen rates of vegetables and fruits almost double within the last one week.

“The stock from the South will run out soon. After that,mangoes are expected to become more expensive. Adding to that,the region has not enjoyed a good production of the crop,” said Ram Kumar,a vegetable vendor in Sector 26.

One kilogram of potatoes are now priced at Rs 18 from last week’s Rs 13. The prices of onions have also doubled from Rs 10 to Rs 20. Tomatoes are now available at Rs 25 per kg. Peas have also become dearer and are now being sold at Rs 60 per kg. The prices of litchi too have doubled to Rs 80 this week.

The prices of banana too have touched Rs 40 a dozen. Capsicum is now available at Rs 25 per kg.
