UT Vigilance arrests 2 for fake licenses

UT Vigilance Department on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly used to forge signatures of Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic to prepare fake driving licences.

The UT Vigilance Department on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly used to forge signatures of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Traffic to prepare fake driving licences.

The two arrested are Ramesh Chand,a typist,and Manvinder Singh,an agent. While Ramesh Chand (46) used to sit outside the office of Deputy Commissioner,Chandigarh,Manvinder is a resident of Manimajra.

The two have been remanded to police custody for two days. Fake stamps,which were used to prepare fake driving licences,have been recovered from the possession of the duo.

Throwing light on the modus operandi of the accused,Inspector Dilip Rattan of the UT Vigilance Department said,“Ramesh Chand used to collect files from persons assuring them they will not have to shoulder the trouble of paying fruitless visits to the Estate office for preparation of a driving licence. Then,Ramesh used to hand over the files to Manvinder Singh who used to forge signatures of DSP Traffic and give them back to Ramesh.”

Rattan added that the duo used to charge between Rs 1,600 to Rs 5,000 for preparation of fake licences. As per available information,the UT Vigilance Department has seized over two dozen files from the Registering and Licensing Authority which were allegedly prepared by the duo.
