To give a fillip to the tourism sector in the city,the UT Administration will have a tripartite agreement with the Ministry of Tourism,Darashaw Consultants and Tourism Department,Chandigarh for development of mega tourism infrastructure in terms of the development of a new convention centre at the site of the Nehru Performing Centre of Arts in Sector 34,Paryatan Bhawan and development of infrastructure at Kalagram to make it a hub of culture and tourism.
All these tourism projects will be developed in an integrated manner to tap the tourism potential of Chandigarh.
This was decided at a review meeting of the tourism projects that are ongoing or are yet to be started,chaired by the UT Advisor K K Sharma on Friday.
The UT Administration is all set to give a new look to the entry points of the city as part of the overall tourism plans for the city,for which the UT has received a grant of Rs 20 crore as central assistance from the Ministry of Tourism.
To start with,a new look with colourful landscaping along with illumination during night hours at the entry point from Delhi shall be taken up. Besides this,gardens are being developed in the southern sectors and amongst these,the Japanese Garden in Sector 31 shall be the largest garden being developed. spread over ten acres. which will have a connecting underground tunnel with parts of the entire sector.
In fact,the Japanese Garden will be one of its kind in the entire region and will promote garden tourism in Chandigarh in a big way.
The Botanical Garden in Sarangpur is being developed as an Eco Tourism Park with a Nature Interpretation Centre to be set up at a cost of over 3 crore which will have three dimensional panoramic panels and other interesting features related to the flora and fauna of Shivalik hills. This will provide an opportunity to the tourists and visitors to explore the interesting aspects of environment and ecology of this region.
The Botanical Garden is being pitched as a major tourist spot in western side of the city with high inflow of visitors coming from Punjab area.
The review meeting was attended by Secretary,Tourism,D K Tiwari,Chief Engineer,UT,Chief Engineer,Municipal Corporation,Director,Tourism and other officers of Chandigarh Administration.
