The Chandigarh Administration has appointed Dr Pradeep Bhagat, the principal of Chandigarh College of Architecture,as consultant for the illumination of the Capitol Complex. The Administration had earlier refused to appoint Dr Bhagat as consultant even though a team from the college headed by him had worked for almost a year for preparing the detailed plan for illumination. Rather it was decided that a consultant be appointed to re-plan the concept. Sources say the Administration did not find the presentations by potential consultants satisfactory, which is why it was decided to appoint Dr Bhagat as project in-charge. The decision was taken in a meeting held a few days ago. The Home Secretary reaffirmed the decision during his visit to the CCA today. Newsline was curious to know why Dr Bhagat was chosen despite not being in the UT Administration's focus earlier. It was felt that someone who knows the city well needs to be given the task. It requires time to understand the thought behind the buildings. The college had worked on the project for the last more than a year. The quality of work was found to be better, said a UT official Dr Bhagat was pleased with his appointment. It is an honour for me to be associated with the project. The Capitol Complex is well known the world over and to be a part of a project for its illumination is a delight, he said. Earlier, the Punjab Energy Development Agency appointed Dr Bhagat as one of the consultants for the prestigious project of illumination of the Parliament House.
