The family of Pardeep Singh, who was among the 105 deportees sent to India by the USA on Wednesday, had spent around Rs 41 lakh to fulfil his American dream. Most of this money was taken as a loan.

Although Pardeep was yet to reach home at Jarout village near Derabassi in the district, his visibly distraught family demanded a solution to illegal migration and action against the people who send youngsters abroad by taking huge amounts of money and then leave them at the mercy of the other governments.

Pardeep, who studied up to Class 12, is the youngest of his two siblings. His older sister is married. Pardeep’s father Kulbir Singh is a small-time farmer who owns around 1.5 acre land at his village which, his family says, is insufficient for making both ends meet. The family is also into a small dairy business.

Pardeep’s mother Narinder Kaur said that they sent her son to the USA around six months ago by spending around Rs 41 lakh. She said that they had to sell around half acre of their land to arrange the money and also took a loan to fulfil their son’s dream of making a good life abroad.

“I was not aware of any deportation. Today some of our neighbours informed us. It is a tough time for our family as after spending such a huge amount of money, my son has been sent home,” Narinder said. Pardeep went to the USA after the agents promised to facilitate his arrival there and also promised him to get him work but he did not find any job in the USA and failed the scrutiny carried out by the new USA government.

When asked about the agent who sent Pardeep to the USA, his mother said she was not aware of the agent.
