Unemployed youth get training as plumbers

The Municipal Corporation gave training to 26 unemployed youngsters under a plumber training programme for youth.

The Municipal Corporation gave training to 26 unemployed youngsters under a plumber training programme for youth living below the poverty line for making them self-dependent,under the Swaran Jayanti Shahri Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY). At the completion of the course certificates were distributed today at water works,Sector 32.

Additional Commissioner TPS Phoolka gave away certificates to those who completed the course. He said loan facilities will also be provided to eligible candidates under SJSRY scheme. He said similar courses will be started in gardening and handling of electrical appliance.

The Corporation had invited applications for the course and 26 candidates had been shortlisted. A retired professor from the industrial training institute (ITI) has been engaged to impart training to the students. The syllabus has also been chalked out as per the ITI standards. The youths were also paid stipend of Rs 100 per month for six months during the course of training. Others who were present on the occasion included Chief Engineer S S Bidda,SE (Public Health) R.K. Goyal,Executive Engineer R S Ahluwalia and other officers of Municipal Corporation.
