To overcome the problem of frequent powercuts, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vittaran Nigam (UHBVN) has designed a four-point programme and now residents can look forward to a decline in outages in the coming months,if the bodys claims are anything to go by. At a press conference held on Friday, senior officials said the first step towards improving the situation was to convert the open conductors into aerial-bunched cables. This would curtail breakdowns caused by trees that fall on wires during storms. The township is full of old trees like safeda and cutting them is not a solution. Introduction of aerial-bunched cables would salvage the problem, said a senior UHBVN official. Earlier,we had to check the entire cable to detect the fault. Now,the indicators would start glowing wherever the fault would be in the line. This would quicken the redressal of the problem, he added. The department has also strengthened the complaint centre in view of requests by residents that linesmen either do not answer calls or do not come to attend the fault. The officials said in case a call is not answered for half-an-hour,it would be transferred to a junior engineer, who would then attend to the complaints. In another move, the Nigam also appointed additional staff to address complaints of breakdown. Storms and rains that lashed the district this week added to residents woes,as many sectors remained without power for almost 26 hours due to breakdowns in sub-stations and breaking of wires from poles.
