In response to the growing public demand, two Chandigarh-bound special trains will be given an extended run.
The Dibrugarh Express,a weekly special train from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh, will be resumed from March after a months gap while another special train Chandigarh-Jaipur Summer Special will be continued for another month.
The Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Town weekly special train (0534) was introduced by the Northern Frontier Railway in September owing to the huge rush during the festive season.
The train will be resumed from next month keeping in mind the demand from passengers. Due to technical reasons, the service has to be stopped for one month before resuming it in March, said Divisional Railway Manager H K Jaggi.
The Chandigarh-Jaipur tri-weekly Summer Special (0989/0990) train will be given another month as the Garib Rath proposed last year is expected to start services in March. The Summer Special that was introduced on trial basis on April 4,2008,for three months was earlier extended twice, till January 4 first and later to February 10.
Witnessing a good response from passengers, the train will receive extension for another month following which it will be replaced by the Garib Rath. The rakes for the Garib Rath are almost complete and will be here soon, added Jaggi.
