GUILTY OF raping a 16-year-old girl, a teacher was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1.58 lakh by a court on Friday. The convict has also been ordered to pay Rs 1.5 lakh to the girl as compensation. The convict, Nischal Sadana alias Ashok Sharma, was sentenced to jail under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 376(2) (rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 423 (dishonest or fraudulent execution of deed of transfer containing false statement of consideration) and sections 4, 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act of the Indian Penal Code. The quantum of sentence was pronounced by the court of Additional and Sessions Judge Poonam R Joshi on Friday.
Police said the convict was married thrice in Punjab. He divorced his first two wives and was declared proclaimed offender in the dowry death case of his third wife in Phagwara. The convict, Sadana, was staying with his 10-year-old daughter from his second marriage at Sarangpur in a fake name (Ashok Sharma) and had Aadhaar, residential and other proofs of the place.
According to reports, Sadana was arrested on a complaint of the victim’s mother. The convict was working as a tailor and had also been taking tuition in Sarangpur. The convict, living under a fake identity, was giving tuition to the victim, then studying in Class IX.
The incident came to light on May 9, 2016, when the girl’s mother went to pay fees to the tutor. As the victim’s mother went to the tuition class, she did not find her daughter there and came home. But then, she again went to the tuition centre to enquire about her whereabouts where she saw her daughter coming out from the adjoining room. The victim then told her mother about the incident and also said that the tutor had even threatened her.
Following this, a case was registered at Sarangpur police station next day. The accused, who had managed to escape, was arrested four days later from Gurgaon.
