Yamuna Nagar,home to several places of worship for Hindus,Sikhs and Buddhists,is now part of a mega tourism circuit being developed by the Union Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry has given a combined grant of Rs 32 crore to Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for the development of infrastructure in Yamuna Nagar,Paonta Sahib and Panchkula.
Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh has a majestic gurdwara which houses Guru Gobind Singhs weapons. Yamuna Nagar has the Hindu temples of Kapal Mochan,Adi Badri,Kedar Nath,Mantra Devi and Rin Mochan in close proximity to each other,apart from other destinations of religious importance such as Suraj Kund and Shri Saraswati Udgam Sthal.
Shri Kapal Mochan,also known as Shri Gopal Mochan,an pilgrimage destination for both Hindus and Sikhs,lies 17 km northeast of Jagadhari town. The annual fairs at Shri Kapal Mochan,Shri Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund are highly popular.
The water tanks at Rin Mochan and Suraj Kund are currently in the process of being restored. The Ministry has also sanctioned funds for the beautification and infrastructural development of Adi Badri,Saraswati Udgam Sthal,Ved Vyas Temple,Kalesar and Kaleshwar Math.
The restoration of the Buddhist stupa at Chaneti village in Yamuna Nagar district,dating back to the 3rd century BC,is also on the agenda. Sugh,now a dusty village in Haryana,is the site of the ancient city of Shrughna,an important Buddhist centre. A heritage-cum-pilgrim facility,complete with a multipurpose hall,is planned for the heritage villages of Chaneti,Buria,Sugh and Chichraulli.
Haryana Tourism officials said work on developing the Laxmi Narain Temple Complex at Sadhaura will begin in a month,with the lake being desilted,the ancient ghat conserved,and other infrastructure developed.
The Ministry has provided funds for a pilgrim facility node for Dargah Hazrat Sayeed Shah.
The two tanks at the Saraswati Tirth at Mustafabad are planned to be desilted.
At Panchkula,funds have been allocated for improving infrastructure at the Mansa Devi Temple Complex,Morni Fort,Lal Munia Forest Rest House,and for the construction of an approach road for the nature camp at Thapli.
