After more than 15 years,Chandigarh will host a major wrestling tournament- the 32nd boys (freestyle and Greco Roman) and 15th Female Junior National wrestling championship- from May 9 to 12 at the Sector 10 Skating Rink. The tournament will be hosted by Chandigarh Wrestling Association under the aegis of the Wrestling Federation of India.
More than 620 wrestlers and 100 technical officials will be seen in action in the tournament. Top wrestlers,including a number of international wrestlers from 26 affiliated units of the WFI and Services Sports Control Board,will be seen in action.
According to Darshan Lal,general secretary of Chandigarh Wrestling Association,defending champions Services Sports Control Board,runners-up Delhi and third position holders Haryana in the last edition,will be fielding two teams each in freestyle competitions for boys. Similarly,holders Punjab,runners-up SSCB and third position holders Uttar Pradesh are also entitled to field two teams each in the Greco-Roman competitions for boys. Holders Haryana,runners-up Uttar Pradesh and third position winners Delhi will send two teams each in the girls freestyle competitions.
The international wrestlers who will be seen in action are Devi Singh Thakur (50 kg),Bajrang (60 kg),Parveen Rana (66 kg),Deepak (74 kg),Somveer (84 kg),Yudhvir (96 kg) and Satender (120 kg); all medal winners in the 2012 Junior Asian Feestyle and Greco-Roman and Female Wrestling Championships held at Alaty (Kazakhstan) from May 29 to June 3.
Indu Chaudhary (44kg),Ruby Chaudhary (48 kg),Lalita (51 kg),Rity (55 kg),Pooja Dhanda (59 kg),Sakshi Malik (63 kg),Seema (67 kg) and Kiran (72 kg) are the medal winners in the womens freestyle competitions in Alaty (Kazakhstan).
Also,Indian medal winners in the 2012 Cadet Asian Freestyle and Greco-Roman and Female Wrestling Championship held at Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and 2012 World Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman and Female Wrestling Championships in Baku (Azerbaijan),will also stake their claims for the top honours. Meanwhile,medical examination in freestyle and Greco-Roman in 66 kg and 84 kg for boys and freestyle for women in 44 kg,51 kg and 63 kg,will be done from 4 to 5 pm,while weighing-in is scheduled in these categories from 5 to 5.30 pm. Elimination rounds and repechage will be held on May 10 from 7 am to 12.30 pm. The semi-finals and finals in these categories will be conducted from 4 to 7 pm.
Medical examinations and weighing-in in other categories will be conducted on May 10,11 and 12,followed by competitions on each day. A team from National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will be deputed to take samples of the winners.
