Three men get life imprisonment in murder case

A district court of Chandigarh on Tuesday sentenced life imprisonment to three men for murdering a 30-year-old man in April 2018. The convicts have also been imposed a fine of Rs 2.20 lakh each.

The court of Rajnish Garg, Additional District and Session Judge, held the convicts, Khem Singh, Jagdev Singh, Gurdeep Singh, guilty under sections 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of IPC.

“All the sentences shall run concurrently…Out of the fine amount of Rs 6,60,000, an amount of Rs 5,00,000 shall be paid to legal heirs of deceased Mohammad Alim, alias Mohammad Ali, in equal shares towards compensation due to mental agony and pain suffered by them on account of untimely death of Alim,” the court said in its order.

The victim was on his way back from work when his wife’s lover kidnapped and murdered him with the help of his friends, according to the police. Alim’s wife, Neetu, had complained to the police that her husband was missing. Police arrested Neetu’s boyfriend Khem, alias Shanty, as a prime suspect in the case.

Neetu and Alim married each other six years ago. They have a son together and used to live in Jujhar Nagar. After marriage, Neetu joined an orchestra group, led by Khem, who worked as a dancer. Khem and Neetu grew close to each other and started living together three years ago, police said.

Somewhere around January 2018, the two had a heated argument after which Neetu went back to live with her husband. Infuriated with Neetu, Khem decided to kill Alim, according to the police.

On the night of April 11, Alim finished his work and left for Burail for some work. Khem was aware of the route that Alim was going to take. He took his brother’s Innova car and waited at Jiri Mandi Chowk with his friends. When Alim’s car came, the accused stopped his car and abducted him. One of Khem’s friends was driving the car, while the other two, along with Khem, strangulated Alim in the car, police claimed.

Police learnt that to ensure that the body remains unidentified, Khem and his friends took off Alim’s clothes and then burnt his face. After this, they threw the body into the jungles of Siswan, according to the police.

When Alim did not reach home till late that night, Neetu began looking for him. She found his car parked near Jiri Mandi Chowk at Sector 39, Chandigarh. She complained about a kidnapping to the police. In her statement, she mentioned that Khem may be responsible for the kidnapping. The police then arrested Khem from Ludhiana and others on his disclosure.
