The Chandigarh Police has claimed to have arrested three bike thieves and recovered five stolen motorcycles, along with two fake number plates, one registration certificate, and seven mobile phones from their possession. The arrests were made by a team from the police station in Sector 31, led by the SHO Rajiv Kumar. According to police officials, the arrested accused have been identified as Sandeep, alias Sunny (26), and Neeraj, alias Kallu (19) — both residents of EWS Colony, Maloya, Chandigarh; and Nitish, alias Nonu (25), resident of Phase-1, Ramdarbar, Chandigarh. In the first case, ASI Satnam Singh and his team, while on patrol in Industrial Area, Phase-2, received a tip-off that two individuals, Sunny and Kallu, were roaming on a stolen motorcycle with changed number plates. Acting swiftly, a naka was set up near Sector 47 A/B turn, where the duo was intercepted. On verification, both number plates were found to be fake. The police recovered three motorcycles, one registration certificate, one fake number plate, and seven mobile phones from their possession. In the second case, ASI Sagar and his team spotted a suspect pushing a motorcycle near the BSF Headquarters Road towards the Airport area. The suspect tried to flee but was caught. He was identified as Nitish alias Nonu, who could not produce vehicle documents. The Hero Honda Splendor Plus (black) he possessed was found to be stolen, with fake number plates affixed. Further verification revealed that the bike was registered to a Kaithal resident, Hansraj, and had been reported stolen from Sector 34, Chandigarh, on September 11, 2024. Police said Sunny was previously involved in an FIR registered on January 1, 2023, under sections 392 and 34 of IPC, registered at the police station in Industrial Area, Chandigarh. The accused are being further interrogated to trace other possible thefts and accomplices.
