Thieves strike at Sector 4 petrol pump,make off with Rs 3 lakh,mobile phone

Unidentified thieves looted a petrol pump in Sector 4,Chandigarh,in early hours of Monday.

Unidentified thieves looted a petrol pump in Sector 4,Chandigarh,in early hours of Monday. They broke into a convenience store attached to the petrol pump and stole Rs 3 lakh from the counter and a mobile phone. The daring heist was captured by CCTV cameras installed at the store.

The auto service station,Sector 4 where the theft took place is barely half a kilometre away from the headquarters of Chandigarh and Punjab Police in Sector 9.

The thieves,with their faces covered,barged into the store by breaking open the glass door of the store. Apart from cash and mobile phone,they also took away other commodities including chocolates. The CCTV footage shows two individuals entering the shop at 1.45 am and leaving at 1.48 am. The police have registered a case of trespass and theft and have also taken into its possession the CCTV footage.

The proprietor of the petrol pump,Nihar Mahindar Singh,alleged that she had received a threat call on Monday morning warning her that the movement of her cash from the pump to the bank was being watched by goons. Nihar also claimed that she received a similar call on May 20 following which she wrote to the SHO,Sector 3 police station. “When I complained to the police after the first call,they positioned a PCR vehicle at the pump but only for one night,” said Nihar.

She said,“As it was pouring last night,there were no customers as a result of which employees on night duty slept at the rear end of the pump.”

The police along with the forensic team visited the spot. SHO,Sector 3,Shri Prakash said,“We are quizzing employees of the petrol pump who were on night duty.”
