<i>Tiny tots remember their ‘Tryst with destiny’</i>

Schools across the tricity celebrated Children’s Day with great enthusiasm today. Various activities and speeches about the late Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru marked the occasion.

St Soldier International School celebrated the day with a pledge taken by students to maintain peace and harmony. Principal Sudesh Choudhary stressed on the need to revive values and follow the path of peace and compassion.

Shivalik Public School ,Sector 41,celebrated the day with great fervour and enthusiasm and held different competitions like calligraphy,poetic recitation,collage making,bookmark making and greeting card making. The theme for the day was ‘adoption’,where senior students were encouraged to adopt a junior student.

In Shivalik Public School,Mohali,students recited poems,delivered speeches and made presentations highlighting the importance of the Children’s Day. A documentary depicting the glimpses of Pt. Nehru’s first address ‘Tryst with the Destiny’ on attaining freedom for India was also screened. DS Bedi,director of the school,urged the students to work hard to fulfill the dreams and expectations which great leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru had cherished.

A two day training programme for student members of Peace Clubs of nearly 60 schools and colleges was concluded at DAV College,Sector 10 today. In his address,Home Secretary Ram Niwas stressed that along with rights,we should be aware about our fundamental duties too.

Students of Vatsal Chhaya celebrated the Children’s Day at Government Senior Secodnary School,Sector 8. The school has students from slums and marginalised sections of society under its wings where they are provided counseling and appropriate teaching methodology. A cultural programme was held in the school to mark the occasion where students presented songs and dances. Sangeeta Vardhan,who runs the school,said,“Harnessing the time,talent and energy of students,housewives or businessman is a crucial component of our work. Capacity building is vital to spread compassion and a sense of responsibility.”
