Days after his statement on Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal that “Haryana and Punjab should get their rightful share of water” sparked a political row, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak Friday shared stage with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Ludhiana, inviting fresh flak from the Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal.
Pathak, who sent to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab and had given the controversial statement on SYL in Karnal, was part of the event where party’s newly elected in-charge of blocks and districts were administered oath.
Sharing a photograph from the event on X, senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, hit out at the CM. “Instead of seeking the dismissal of MP Sandeep Pathak, who demanded SYL waters for Haryana, CM Mann is sharing the stage with him…Shame on you Bhagwant Mann… You have backstabbed Punjab…you should immediately resign,” the former minister said.
Meanwhile, during his speech, Mann hit out at SAD. “Look at their frustration now. They have now stooped to issues like “kulchey chole”. Such a big party, which led so many morchas (movements), they have now come down to kulchey chole. They are now even resorting to morphing videos of singers to abuse us,” said Mann.
By morphed video Mann was apparently referring to SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana, who was arrested by Mohali police Thursday for allegedly posting a “doctored video of singer Kanwar Grewal’s show to defame Mann”.
Some days back, Majithia had held a press conference and alleged that three Punjab ministers including Harpal Singh Cheema, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Aman Arora had gone to an eatery in Amritsar’s Ranjit Avenue to have kulchey chole and had booked a hotel room opposite the eatery. Majithia alleged that when hotelier asked them to pay room tariff of Rs 5500, he was harassed and several notices were served to him.
Meanwhile, speaking at the event, Mann said, “Punjab is my family. We worked hard to bring a political change in Punjab. Now, we have to work even harder to free our country from corruption and unemployment”.
He encouraged the volunteers to take Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s politics to every corner of the country and strengthen the party’s units in every state.
Mann, who is also the AAP’s Punjab unit chief, said the party has withstood ups and downs since its formation in 2012.
He said that some people think that they are bigger than the party “but it is the party which gave us a platform which made people from common background ministers and MLAs.”
AAP’s Punjab working president Budh Ram officiated the oath. He said new block presidents and district in-charges have been appointed according to Kejriwal’s directions.
Pathak said no success is possible without volunteers’ support and hard work. In the AAP’s Punjab unit, Pathak said, he has the most hard working and disciplined team of volunteers who not only made Mann the chief minister with a historic mandate but are also working hard to take the party’s policies to other states.
Party’s state in-charge Jarnail Singh exuded confidence that the AAP will perform “exceptionally well” in the upcoming local body elections and register victory in more than 90 per cent of the wards.
