Sukhbir plays to gallery,unveils urban ‘reforms’

With an eye on the Punjab assembly elections,the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday announced a slew of packages related to the urban development in the state.

Among the packages were granting of municipal corporation status for the cities of Moga,Phagwara and Pathankot,extending non-construction period of buildings up to 15 years and amnesty in payment of arrears of house tax,water supply and sewerage charges and single certificate for building completion and occupation.

Speaking at a function at Bath Castle,the deputy CM announced many other reform measures such as self certification of building plans and change of land use at municipal corporation level.

Badal also announced that the water supply and sewerage connections of houses up to 250 square yards would be regularised (from August 1, 2011,to October 31,2011) on a nominal payment of Rs 500. The water supply and sewerage connections of commercial establishments constructed on plots up to 125 square yards would be regularised on payment of Rs 100.

Widows,freedom fighters,gallantry award winners,ex-servicemen,the physically challenged and citizens above 70 year have been exempted of tax on land and buildings in urban local areas,he said.

Giving a major relief to people,he said that residences constructed in unauthorised colonies would no longer have to get ‘no objection certificate’ from local bodies for getting power connections.

A campaign would be launched to recruit wards of those municipal employees who have died during service,he said.

The SAD-BJP government has allocated Rs 2,802 crore for these services as against Rs 584 crore granted by the previous Congress regime,the deputy chief minister said.

Sukhbir gave major relief to the people by announcing to bring services such as building plans,completion certificates,occupancy certificates,duplicate and re-allotment letters,conveyance deed,re-transfer of property,water supply and sewerage connections under Right To Service Act to be implement from August 15 this year. Establishment of pensioners’ grievances redressal cell and enhancing the level of e-Tendering up to Rs 10 lakh were also announced.
