Sukhbir Singh Badal. (File Image) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of hypocrisy over the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue and called Mann a ‘nakli chief minister’.
Speaking to the media in Ludhiana, the SAD chief said, “On the one hand they (AAP government) are issuing statements that they will not allow the central team constituted to survey the status of the SYL canal construction to enter Punjab, on the other they have issued an order to activate a live portal to conduct a survey for the canal’s construction and are uploading the details of survey team on the portal. They say one thing and then do another thing.”
Badal, who was here to meet the SAD political affairs committee (PAC) workers, alleged, “Mann has compromised the interests of Punjab at the instance of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, he is doing whatever Kejriwal wants.”
When asked, will he be keen to debate with the Punjab CM as per his challenge, the SAD president said, “Which debate? And with whom? We will debate with the ‘asli’ CM and not the one who has no powers but is only conveying to masses what Kejriwal is saying.”
Badal was at the house of senior SAD leader Mahesh Inder Grewal in Ludhiana West constituency where he met with the PAC members of Ludhiana West.
Ranjit Singh Dhillon, state general secretary of SAD, told The Indian Express that the party has about 200 PAC members in each constituency and the SAD president is touring the state and interacting with PAC members constituency-wise in order to take feedback from them. “It’s a face-to-face conversation with the workers in the field to take feedback on what reforms are needed in the party and what are the challenges faced by workers on the ground. In Ludhiana, more such PAC meetings will be held in future,” Dhillon said.
Meetings with the PAC members had started about two months ago and so far, around 20 Vidhan Sabha constituencies have been covered by the SAD president. On Friday he was in Fazilka, while on Saturday he was in Balluana constituency of Fazilka district.
When asked about the exodus of SAD leaders from his party, Badal said, “I wish them best for their political journey ahead.”
“Today (Sunday) the office-bearers of the district committee had a meeting in Ludhiana to discuss the upcoming municipal corporation polls. A discussion was held on forming campaign committees and selection committees for the local bodies polls which are expected to be held next month,” Dhillon added.
