SpeedSprint 2013 from today

Over the past few weeks,Chandigarh has witnessed a boom in motorsports.

Over the past few weeks,Chandigarh has witnessed a boom in motorsports. Adding to the list of already growing names is the SpeedSprint 2013,to be held from March 16. On March 16,scrutiny of the vehicles will be done will the morning while the competitive rounds shall commence in the afternoon and continue the following day also.

The event will have more than 150 participants and a tarmac challenge of almost nine kilometres. Professional racing teams like Team Thunderbolt,Team KTM and BG Racing are participating in the event. The event is governed by the stringent safety regulations of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of India (FMSCI). SpeedSprint is organised by Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports (TCAS) in association with Incarnation Sports,Chevrolet and Thunderbolt.

SpeedSprint,which is an all-out speed show on a tarmac track,will be held near Mullanpur on the periphery of UT Chandigarh. Competitors need a valid driver’s license and permission of the owner of the vehicle to compete in SpeedSpint March 2013.

Entries are almost full for the second edition of SpeedSprint,with competitors coming from various parts of Rajasthan,Punjab,Haryana,Himachal Pradesh,Uttar Pradesh,Uttaranchal,Delhi and also the Tricity for the event.

According to Sudev Barar,one of the organisers,this time the track is more competitive and technical,with 21 turns. In SpeedSprint 2012,the length of the track was 5 kilometers,and the number of turns was eight.

Gulpreet Aulakh of TCAS said that the SpeedSprint track will have obstacles and challenges to test the skill of the drivers to the limit. Each competitor will be given two chances to get the best time on the track. The faster sprint out of these two runs will be taken for final ranking.

The event has a separate women’s category. To promote motorsport in Chandigarh,there is a special ‘Local Category’ too,where competitors from tricity can compete only amongst themselves. According to Nikhil Jaspal of TCAS,competitors can participate in the event on a mobike,a car/SUV,or in a four-wheeler prepared especially for rallying.

The event has three categories: Zip,Zap and Zoom.

Chevrolet SpeedSprint Zip – For all types and makes of four-wheeler. No special preparation needed except a road worthy with seat belts and driver wearing a BIS approved helmet.

SpeedSprint Zap – Open only to four-wheelers prepared as per FMSCI regulations governing rally sports. Roll cage and other safety mandated feature are a must. An out and out extreme speed event.

Chevrolet SpeedSprint Zoom – Open for two wheelers conforming the FMSCI safety regulations as applicable to rallying.

The event has no mass start. Each participant in each category will be given an individual time start. The finish time is going to be monitored by a laser beam trip,so that it is accurate to the fraction of a second.

Photography contest

In a first of its kind,SpeedSprint has announced a photography contest open to all spectators at the event. The photographers have to submit their best shots from SpeedSprint for the contest. The entries will be judged by Nitin Yadav,an ace motorsport photographer. There will be two cash prizes and trophies for winners. The photographs can be taken on the track on March 16 or 17.
