Speed governors: Truck union to move SC

The All Punjab Truck Operator Union (APTOU) will file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the installation of “speed governors instruments” on every truck in the state from February 1.

In its ruling,the Punjab and Haryana High Court had ordered that speed governors be installed on every truck,bus and tempo as it will act as a deterrant against accidents. While the government — in an appeal in the High Court — has sought relief for buses,it has not presented the case of trucks,APTOU president Happy Sandhu told mediapersons on Wednesday.

He added that the union will challenge the ruling in the Supreme Court on the ground that there should be uniform rule regarding installation of speed governors on trucks across the country,as there is no point in installing such instruments in trucks in a few states. Who will check the speed of the trucks that come from states that have not installed speed governors? he asked.
