To manage the heavy rush of passengers during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, 11 special trains will be run from Punjab to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra this week.

According to officials of the Firozpur Division of Northern Railways, the trains will run from Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Firozpur to destinations such as Chapra, Katihar, Kishanganj, Supaul, Purna, and Bandra Terminus. While some of these trains will run daily, others will operate once or four times a week, depending on demand, officials added.

To facilitate smooth ticketing, additional booking counters and automatic ticket vending machines have been set up at major stations, officials said. Inquiry offices have been strengthened with extra staff, and train information is being continuously shared through public announcement systems, digital display boards, and megaphones. Additional personnel from the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police have been deployed for crowd management and safety. Movement in restricted areas, such as footboards and train rooftops, will be strictly prohibited, officials said.

Temporary waiting areas covering about 8,000 square feet have been created at Amritsar, Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, and Dhandari Kalan railway stations to handle the festive rush. Clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, first aid boxes, and essential medicines have been ensured at all major stations. Senior officials are on round-the-clock duty to supervise arrangements, officials added.

Round-the-clock CCTV surveillance is being conducted at all key stations, and a control room (war room) has been set up at the Firozpur Divisional Office for continuous monitoring.

To manage crowd flow, platform ticket sales at Ludhiana and Dhandari Kalan stations have been temporarily suspended from October 16 to 26. Similarly, all types of parcel transactions at Ludhiana station will remain suspended from October 23 to 25, officials revealed.

Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 25 to October 28.
