Special DG I-T to monitor Hisar bypoll

Election Commission of India has directed the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation),North West Region,Chandigarh,Jaswant Singh to keep close surveillance over airports.

Chief Electoral Officer,Haryana,Sumita Misra on Monday said that the Election Commission of India has directed the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation),North West Region,Chandigarh,Jaswant Singh to keep close surveillance over airports and state bound flights,railway stations,hotels,farm houses,hawala agents,financial brokers,cash couriers and other suspicious agencies or persons used for movement of undisclosed cash.

While holding a video conference with deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of three districts of Hisar,Jind and Bhiwani,falling in Hisar parliamentary constituency,Misra said Jaswant Singh had also been directed to take necessary action as per provisions of Income Tax Act.

For this purpose,he might utilise the services of the officers and officials under his supervision to keep close surveillance over ostentatious expenditure including movement of undisclosed cash and other goods and to arrange their placements in such a manner that all the areas forming the parts of Hisar parliamentary constituency were covered during the election period.

She said that Singh had also been asked to open a central control room,preferably in the district headquarters forming parts of the constituency with 24X7 call centres and toll free numbers under his direct supervision. Director,FIU-India,had also been asked to send real time information to the Director General of Income Tax on suspicious transaction report and withdrawal of cash exceeding specified limits in a day from bank account maintained in the state.

She asked the officers to personally visit sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas in the constituency to ensure the people that the election would be fair and free from any fear.

Nominations to the elections began today and can be filed upto September 26.
