The city hadn’t really warmed up to the Indian Premier League so far but the moment Dada’s Kolkata Knight Riders landed here, the team hotel was abuzz with fans waiting to catch a glimpse of the talented cricketer.

Gulshan Biswas (35),who runs a chemist shop, spent the entire afternoon at Hotel Mountview with his son Naman (10) and nephew Dhananjoy (12). At the end of the day, they were smiling. They went home with Dada’s autographs and even got their photographs clicked with him. “I want to see Dada score maximum runs in the match and help KKR win,” said Gulshan.

“I went to see the KKR vs Kings XI Punjab during the 2008 edition but KKR lost the match. I have bought the KKR jersey this time, especially for the match,” said Naman.

They weren’t the only Ganguly supporters flocking the hotel lobby. As many shook hands with Ganguly, another Bengali from the city,Parthasarthy Sarkar (47),was more forthcoming. “Thank God Shah Rukh Khan appointed him the captain of KKR again. I am sure this will inspire the whole bunch. Dada is an enigmatic leader and youngsters look up to him in every sense.”

“Since he retired from international cricket,it is only during the IPL that we can see Dada. I want to see a flurry of shots being played from his blade in Saturday’s game. I will be at the stadium with my family there,” said 40-year-old Mansi Das,a homemaker. The match starts at 8 pm on Saturday.

As the action moved to the PCA Stadium in the evening,a 10-year-old paralytic boy was a special guest. He had come from Ludhiana to meet Sourav and was happy beyond words when the cricketer accepted his bouquet.
