Singla files papers amid show of strength

The Punjab Congress put up a show of strength at the filing of nomination papers of Vijay Inder Singla from Sangrur.

The Punjab Congress put up a show of strength at the filing of nomination papers of Vijay Inder Singla from Sangrur. Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh,CLP leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and PPCC acting president Lal Singh were present on the occasion.

Party leaders and workers from every assembly segment of Sangrur parliamentary seat were present with their supporters. Singla,flanked by Amarinder,Bhattal and Lal Singh,went in a procession to the DC office to file his papers just before the scheduled time of 3 pm.

Amarinder charged the Akalis with supporting BJP candidate Varun Gandhi,who gave hate speeches against Sikhs and Muslims.

“The BJP owes an explanation to the people of Punjab for bringing down the Babri Masjid and violence in Gujarat and Orissa,” he said.

Capt said Singla was like his son and sought support for him. Bhattal called for showing the Akalis the way to their home,while Lal Singh highlighted the achievements of the UPA regime.

Karamjit files nomination papers

: Twenty-four-year-old Karamjit Singh Sunam,who hit the headlines for an assassination bid on former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi,filed his nominations papers as an Independent from Patiala. Karamjit hails from Sunam and is a practising lawyer. “People understand more through ballot rather than bullet,” Singh said after filing his papers.

Vijay Inder Singla (37),son of former MP Sant Ram Singla and a resident of Patiala,has declared total assets of Rs 2.24 crore. Educated up to senior secondary level,Singla has declared total assets of Rs 1.76 crore as an individual and another Rs 47.38 lakh as karta of HUF. Though Singla or any of his family members do not own a car,he has cash and moveable assets of Rs 59.23 lakh an individual and Rs 25.38 lakh in HUF. He also owns agricultural land in Madhopur village in Sirhind valued at Rs 2 lakh as an individual and another Rs 2 lakh worth land in the same village in HUF,besides a Rs 30-lakh plot in Sector 5,Gurgaon,and 1,100 square yards in Bharpur Garden in Patiala,valued at Rs 35 lakh and another 235 square yard plot on Bhupindra Road worth Rs 50 lakh. He also owns a Rs 20-lakh plot in Sector 43,Sushant Lok,Gurgaon. Singla’s wife,Deepa,who is also his covering candidate for Sangrur seat,has declared total assets of Rs 116.29 lakh,with cash,bank and other deposits,besides other financial instruments of Rs 41.29 lakh,which includes jewellery and diamonds worth Rs 8 lakh. She also does not own any car,but has 1.5 acre agricultural land in Mullanpur in Mohali worth Rs 24 lakh,a 450-square yard plot in Sector 77 Mohali worth Rs 15 lakh,a 160 square yard plot in Chittaranjan Park in Delhi valued at Rs 16 lakh and a floor of 1,884 square yards in City Centre,Patiala,worth Rs 20 lakh. Singla has also declared moveable assets of Rs 5.28 lakh in the name of his minor son and Rs 2.59 lakh in the name of his minor daughter.
