Sikh bodies to stage a dharna outside BJP hqrs in Delhi on Dec 20

A group of Sikh organisations have announced to stage a dharna outside the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on December 20 over the alleged apathetic attitude of Uttrakhand government towrads restoring the historic Gurdwara Gian Godri in Haridwar,Uttrakhand,which was demolished during the 1984 Sikh riots.

Panthic Sewa Lehar chief Sant Baljit Singh Daduwal,Khalsa Action Committee convener Mohkam Singh and SGPC member from Phillaur Kulbir Singh Barapind on Friday alleged that the BJP government in Uttrakhand was to act on the pleas of by the Sikh organisations to restore the gurdwara that has a historical importance in the Sikhism as first Guru Guru Nanak Dev had visited it around 450 years ago.

“We have been appealing the Uttrakhand government to restore the gurdwara land so that the it could be reconstructed. We have provided the Uttrakhand government with historical and revenue records pertaining to the gurdwara. However,the government,instead of restoring the same land, has offered land at some other place,” they said.

The place has a great historical and religious importance for Sikh community and it cannot be shifted to some other place,they argued.

They also alleged that both Akal Takhat jathedar and the SGPC have also failed to make efforts to claim the land belonging to the gurdwara.

Stating that a large area of the gurdwara has already been attached,they said that they were demanding the “few hundred square feet of the area” where where the gurdwara stood.
