The National Investigative Agency has summoned Sikh activist Sukhraj Singh, whose father was killed in the 2015 police firing in Punjab’s Behbal Kalan village. Singh, who has announced a plan to contest the Gidderbaha Assembly bypoll, said he was unaware why he had been summoned.

Sukhraj Singh led a 737-day-long protest from December 2021 to December 2023 to seek justice for his father Kishan Bhaghwan Singh and Gurjit Singh, who were killed in police firing at Behbal Kalan in Punjab’s Faridkot district during a protest related to the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib in 2015. His protest played a role in the outcome of the 2022 Assembly elections.
