At the auction held on November 18 at district courts,Chandigarh, seven shops including confectionery, books and stationery shops were allotted. The auction was held by the Chandigarh Administration with the help of court administration.
An important outcome of the auction was that the contract for running the canteen in the service block was given to new caterers. However, within two weeks from the allotment of the shops and the canteen, questions are being raised on the sustainability of these shops. One of the reason is the hefty amount of rent on which these shops were allotted.
Following this,SPS Bhullar, advocate and chairman of construction committee,Lawyers Chambers Complex,on Saturday held an auction to allot shops at reasonable costs.
At the auction held on Saturday,14 shops were allotted. Six shops were allotted on the ground floor of the complex, which includes three food and confectionery shops. While two shops were allotted on a monthly rent of Rs 15,000,one has been allotted for a rent of Rs 28,000. Three other shops were allotted on same floor for a rent of Rs 10,000 each.
Photocopiers and confectionery shops have been allotted on the first, second, third and fourth floor. Two shops have been allotted on each floor. While shops on the first and second floor have been allotted on a monthly rent of Rs 10,000,rent for the shops on the third and fourth floorr is Rs 7500,which is quite less as compared to shops allotted in the service block.
On the other hand,at the auction held on November 18 in the service block, two shops that will have photocopying and internet facility were allotted at the monthly rent of Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000. The contract for the canteen was given on a rent of Rs 2.16 lakh per month.
I think that the rent on which the shops at the service block were allotted is too much and anyone who owns it will find it difficult to do a sustainable business. That is why we have allotted these shops at the Lawyers Chambers Complex at reasonable rates. We intend to ensure some good income to the bar association and at the same time provide good service to the people, said advocate SPS Bhullar.
