Senior citizens’ body celebrates annual day

A large number of senior citizens from the tricity attended the annual day celebration of Senior Citizens Welfare Association,Manimajra at Gurukul Global School on Sunday.

A large number of senior citizens from the tricity attended the annual day celebration of Senior Citizens Welfare Association,Manimajra at Gurukul Global School on Sunday.

Eminent citizens from various walks of life were honoured on the occasion. While Major General M S Kandal (Retd) was honoured for his services in the field of social welfare,Anurag Sharma,V D Singh and D K Chopra were honoured for their services in the field of medicine.

Managing Director Parveen Satya and Principal Aruna Bhardwaj of Gurukul Global School were honoured as entrepreneur and educationist,respectively. Besides,while Professor Sangeeta Gupta was honoured for her contribution in the world of art and theatre,Axis Bank head Devinder Singh was honoured for his role in the field of finance.

During the ceremony,the audience was enthralled by a Punjabi play,Akhir Kyon,directed by Sangeeta Gupta. Dance was performed by Atul,a budding artist. Parminder Phull,Shashi Kaushal,Kanchan Jain and the students of Gurukul Global school also performed.

On the occasion,a souvenir for 2011 was also released. The editor of the issue,Col Gursewak Singh,said the souvenir talks contains articles on well being,health,happiness,relationships of senior citizens. Blankets and sweets were distributed to around 50 people belonging to the economically weaker section of the society.

While Major General M S Kandal (Retd) was the guest of honour for the function,Kanwar Sandhu,Managing Editor of Day and Night News TV station was the chief guest.
