Sehwag’s brother arrested in cheque bounce case

The Proclaimed Offender (PO) Cell of Chandigarh Police has arrested Vinod Sehwag, brother of former cricketer Virender Sehwag, in connection with a two-year-old cheque bounce case.

Vinod and two others were accused under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act after cheques issued by their company, M/s Xalta Food Beverages Private Limited, were found to be allegedly dishonoured. The complaint was filed by Krishan Mohan Khanna, a Panchkula-based businessman. The case was registered in 2023 at the Manimajra police station.

Additionally, an FIR under Section 174-A of the IPC was lodged against the accused for failing to appear in court as per orders under Section 82 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Vinod filed for bail, but the police opposed the plea, arguing that he had already disobeyed court orders and could evade legal proceedings again.

After hearing arguments, the court reserved its decision and adjourned the case to March 10.
