Traffic curbs in Chandigarh today to make way for BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon’s massive cavalcade

Over 200 vehicles, including cars and two wheelers, are. accompanying Sanjay Tandon who will be filing his nomination at Sector 17 DC office after 12.30 pm.

As BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon filed his nomination papers for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, his cavalcade comprising 457 vehicles choked the city roads for some time. Traffic routes were diverted to give way to Tandon’s cavalcade.

The nomination was filed in the office of Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh in Sector 17, Chandigarh as the family wanted it to be on “the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya”.

Tandon’s family got the number of vehicles counted in their cavalcade, which were 457.

MP Kirron Kher, Chandigarh BJP President Jitender Malhotra,and Ravinder Nath were present during the filing. Arun Sood was outside the venue while BJP senior leader Satya Pal Jain was conspicuous by his absence.

After filing the nomination, Tandon said, “I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming support and trust placed in me by the people of my city. Today, I am in debt to the love and support people have showered upon me. I assure you that after becoming an MP, I will do the work of 50 years in the next five years.”

Before the roadshow, Tandon, along with his family members in the presence of senior BJP leaders, performed a havan, which was attended by Haryana’s newly appointed CM Nayab Singh Saini at Kamlam, Sector 33, Chandigarh.

Following the havan, he initiated a procession on his ‘Vijay Rath’, accompanied by senior BJP leaders from the party’s office in Sector 33, Chandigarh. He also visited Gurdwara Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib in Sector 34, where Tandon, accompanied by Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, Jitender Pal Malhotra.

During the road show, Tandon paid obeisance at Parshuram Bhawan in Sector 37 and sought blessings at Satya Sai Baba Temple in Sector 30, Baba Balak Nath Mandir, and Sai Temple in Sector 29, Chandigarh.

The roadshow passed through sectors 34, 35, 36, 37, 24, 23, 22, 21, 19, 30, 29, 28, 27, 19, 18 and later reached Sector 17 DC office.

Chandigarh Police diverts routes

The Chandigarh Police in view of the roadshow had issued an alert on traffic diversions on certain routes.

The road show kicked off from BJP office, Sector 33 to Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 to DC Office Sector 17 after passing through Sectors 35, 36, 37, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 30, 29, 28, 27, 19, 18 and Sector 17.

“Vehicles will be diverted at major intersections of Shanti Path, Dakshin Marg, Udyog Path and Madhya Marg,” Chandigarh Police had said early on Friday morning.

At various points, tents had been pitched by BJP workers where they were welcoming Tandon as he passed through.

“General public/participants of road show are advised not to park/ply their vehicles on cycle track/pedestrian pathway and not to park their vehicles on main carriageways, otherwise strict action shall be taken as per law and vehicles shall be towed away,” the Chandigarh Traffic Police had stated in the advisory issued.
