Hundreds of workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal, as well as their alliance partner the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), on Friday held dharnas across the state to protest one year of misrule of the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in the state.
SAD president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, presided over the protests at Lambi and Bhucho Assembly constituencies, during the course of which he claimed that the AAP government had gone back on all its promises made to Punjabis, besides leading the state into chaos by ensuring the complete breakdown of law and order.
Badal said that it seemed like gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and not Bhagwant Mann was running the state. “Lawrence decides who will live or die and who will pay how much tax,” he said, adding that the current state of affairs was leading to flight of industries from Punjab as even the common man felt unsafe.
Asserting that the CM was busy in vendetta politics, Sukhbir Badal said, “The day is not far when Bhagwant Mann will be booked for withdrawing the security cover of Sidhu Moosewala and advertising the same. Mann will also face the heat in matters of corruption, including the excise scam which has led to a loss of Rs 500 crore to the state exchequer.”
The SAD chief then went on to assert that the chief minister had forsaken the state and was at present busy in Madhya Pradesh, which goes to polls later this year. “Earlier the chief minister was busy in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections. The CM earlier was also frittering away the resources of Punjab, with as much as Rs 750 crore being earmarked for advertising of AAP across the country, especially in states which were going to go to polls. In order to do so, the government had imposed cuts on many social welfare schemes like ‘aata-daal’, ‘shagun’ and old age pension.
The dharnas at both Lambi and Bhucho witnessed phenomenal attendance with the crowds calling for the ouster of the corrupt AAP government in the 2024 Parliamentary polls.
Badal said that the government was moving towards installing metres on agricultural tubewells, which would only run when appropriately recharged. He said this would have a huge bearing on the free power facility extended to farmers by former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The SAD president also appealed to the prople to strengthen the real ‘varis’ of Punjab and Punjabis — the Shiromani Akali Dal. He said it was only after the SAD weakened on the electoral arena that forces inimical to it ganged up to break the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) by creating a separate Haryana and Delhi gurdwara management committees, both of which were being run by the Rashtriya Swyamsewak Sangh (RSS).
