The much-awaited new industrial policy is likely to be in place soon. Interacting with the representatives of the Chandigarh Industrial Association,UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd) said the new policy for the Industrial Area Phase I and II was being finalised.

Noting that city has a business-friendly environment,Rodrigues said: “We have to modify our procedures and act as facilitators to realise the aspirations of stakeholders. Industrial indicators suggest we need to focus our attention on more programmes to develop entrepreneurships and empower people,in partnership with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the CII,to upgrade our capabilities and improve our delivery systems.”

Responding to the demand for a Chandigarh Residents’ Social Welfare Federation,Rodrigues asked the gathering to develop a partnership and help the Administration remove encroachments and illegal structures, for which courts have already passed orders.

He asked the Finance Secretary to set up a core group to sort out issues pertaining to the problems of residents. He also asked the Municipal Commissioner to streamline the functioning of contractors engaged in the sanitation process and made it clear that there should be no exploitation of the workers employed for door-to-door garbage collection.
