RO serves Pawan Bansal show-cause notice

The notice was issued following a complaint by the BJP that a speech delivered by Bansal allegedly invoked communal feelings.

The UT Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer Mohd Shayin has issued a show-cause notice to Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal for violation of code of conduct.
The notice was issued following a complaint by the BJP that a speech delivered by Bansal allegedly invoked communal feelings.

As per the complaint submitted by Hitesh Puri, an advocate and state executive member of BJP, Bansal visited Mauli Jagran and used the words, “People of Muslim brotherhood could not forget pulling down of Babri Masjid and Godhra Kand”, to seek votes.

The notice has been issued to Bansal for explaining his position in three days.

The Deputy Commissioner has also issued an advisory to B B Bahl, president of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee, following another complaint by the BJP. The complaint states that the women’s wing of Indian National Congress made personal remarks with regard to a matter of personal concern of BJP’s candidate Kirron Kher. The advisory states that the action violated model code of conduct, therefore the party should refrain from making any such comments or else action would be initiated.

B B Bahl said, “I have received the advisory from the DC office. I have talked to the president of the Women’s Wing. She says they have not made any such defamatory statements. I have asked her not to indulge in any action in future that violates the model code of conduct. As far as Pawan Bansal is concerned, he is a very intelligent person who has been a former Cabinet Minister. He chooses his words very carefully. I am sure he could not have violated any law mentioned in the code of conduct.”
