RMS Chail centenary bike rally flagged off from Pinjore

A motorcycle rally was flagged off Sunday as part of the centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Chail (Himachal Pradesh), from Pinjore, near here.

The RMS Chail, which is celebrating 100 years comes directly under the Union Ministry of Defence. After the flagging off of the rally from Pinjore, the riders and other Georgians (old students) visited the residence of Lt Gen R S Dayal, in Sector 6, Panchkula, as a mark of respect to his unparalleled service and courage, who was instrumental in capture of Hajipir pass in the 1965 war.

The rally paid homage at Lt Gen Dyal’s residence where they were received by his daughter Praveen K Dyal and son-in-law Jangveer Singh. Organised by the Chail Alumni (RMS) Association, the rally was entitled “Ek Ride Bichhade Saathiyon aur Staff ke Naam” and aimed to honour the legacy of the school’s heroes, including Capt G S Salaria, PVC and Lt Gen Ranjit Singh Dayal, MVC. A total of 20 Georgian riders participated in this commemorative ride.

The rally commenced in Delhi on August 21, and was flagged off by ex-student of RMS Chail, Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor, AVSM, VM, with tributes at the Rashtriya Samar Smarak, before proceeding towards Pathankot and Panchkula.

The route covered key milestones, including Capt G S Salaria, PVC, Senior Secondary School at Jangal, Pathankot from where it was flagged off by relatives of Capt Salaria. It covered other memorials that reflect the school’s proud military legacy.

Through this journey, the alumni not only paid tributes to the fallen but also reaffirmed the values of courage, service, and camaraderie that RMS Chail has upheld for a century.

Rashtriya Military School Chail is the oldest military school of the country and was established in the year 1925 as King George Royal Indian Military School at Jalandhar. Similar schools were later established in Ajmer, Belgaum, Bangalore and Dholpur and they are collectively known as Rashtriya Military Schools and the cadets are called Georgians. The school shifted from Jalandhar to Nowgong and finally to Chail in 1960.
