The auction of 57 numbers of the series CH 01 AE on Tuesday helped the Registering and Licensing Authority to generate an additional revenue of Rs 24.28 lakh. The highest bid was for the number 0001 that fetched Rs 5.7 lakh. The number went to Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu,Assistant Solicitor General of India, for his Mercedes Benz S Class 350 that costs around Rs 87 lakh.

His son Suvir Sidhu said since they had spent a huge amount on the car,the number too had to be special. “We are not superstitious about particular numbers. But we wanted a special number for our car,” he said.

The auction, however, did not witness a very enthusiastic response. Apart from number 0001,only two other numbers were sold in lakhs. The number 0009 was auctioned for Rs 2 lakh and 0311 for Rs 2.04 lakh. Some of the single digit numbers that generally fetch higher revenue also received a lukewarm response. The number 0002 of the series was auctioned for Rs 15,000,0003 for Rs 90,000,0004 for Rs 80,000,005 for Rs 16,000 and 0006 for Rs 15,000.
